Being able to communicate effectively is probably the most important skill you can develop.
Almost everything we do involves relationships, so the better you can connect with people, the better chance you’ll have of getting what you need or want, and of understanding what others need or want.
This involves much more than "knowing" a language.
The ability to communicate effectively has more to do with mindset, interpersonal skills, and strategic thinking.
I coach people to communicate more confidently and effectively in English, using a skills-based approach built on three key pillars:
Cultivate a constructive mindset to overcome fears, insecurities, and limiting beliefs that can hinder communication.
Develop the ability to produce language on demand, and enhance the flow and naturalness of speech.
Build a set of essential communication skills tailored to personal and professional needs.
Together, these pillars form a solid foundation for confident and effective communication.
I was born and raised in Wellington, New Zealand, which is almost the exact antipode of Madrid, Spain, the city I've called home since 2002.
I arrived in Spain with almost no knowledge of Spanish, which was humbling and challenging to say the least. Years later, I would be doing professional translation and interpreting for a multinational record company, but I'll never forget those initial difficulties and feelings of discomfort.
That learning journey has directly influenced the way I think about both language and communication, helping me develop and refine my approach. After more than two decades working with business professionals from diverse backgrounds and industries, I'm fully aware of the challenges people face when communicating in English, and I'm particularly attuned to the needs of native Spanish speakers.
